What does Uplighting Cost?

What does uplighting cost in 2022? Uplighting rentals typically cost $18 per light for wired lights and $25 per light for wireless lights when rented online. If you’re looking at outside uplighting, make sure to budget upwards of $45 per lighting fixture.  Uplighting rental cost for an event can range anywhere from $200 – $1500 depending on the size of your venue.  Uplighting is a cost effective way to improve the ambiance for an afternoon or evening event, especially if it’s indoors.

Do I need uplighting for my event?

Not always, but it depends on your venue! We’ve seen some really incredible event venues with natural timber, plenty of natural or artificial lighting, and a well-curated ambiance.  If this is your space, don’t ruin what’s already going on! Especially if you’re having an event during the day, use the existing environment of the space and embrace its beauty.  On the other hand, not all venues are created equal.  If you’re in a dated venue or having an evening event: lighting is key. Consider multiple types of lighting to compliment each other.  Perimeter uplighting is a great place to start, but think about other types of accent lighting throughout.

DIY Uplighting

Do-it-yourself uplighting is a great way to save money on event lighting! While you may be able to rent lighting from your DJ or event venue, renting uplighting online usually has more options at a lower price point.  Most lighting rental websites will ship you uplights before your event and include a prepaid shipping label for easy returns.  Light setup is as easy as setting your light color and plugging the lights in.  Wireless lights give you additional flexibility, but wired uplights will get you the best bang for your buck.

Should I Rent from a DJ?

If your venue or DJ rents uplighting, definitely consider using their services: it can save time and hassle. Venues and DJs often include uplighting as an add-on if you already use their services. Uplighting cost through a DJ or venue is often comparable to rentals online. They’ll bring all the lights with them and often include setup and teardown, but make sure to check the fine print first. Even though it can be a relatively quick process of uplighting setup, letting someone else manage it lets you focus your efforts elsewhere and removes one more item from your plate.  If you’re without a DJ or they don’t offer the service, consider renting lighting online.

Other Cost-Effective Options

Uplighting is a great way to enhance the ambiance of an indoor wedding venue, but it doesn’t work in every space. If you’re outside, consider patio or bistro lighting over your space.  These bright lights work well over a ceremony area or inside a tent space. Lanterns are another great option for suspended lighting.  Christmas lights or LED string lights work well when used to wrap pillars, drape over prominent areas, or use behind tulle.  For tables, consider battery operated lights as a table centerpiece or around plantings.  Add a sparkle with twinkle lights, or create focus with a pin spot or a spotlight.
